Following on from his heat-protection spray and styling spray, in 1986 Jean-Marie Greyl began to look again at issues surrounding styling products. In
those days, gels and particularly men’s gels, contained high levels of alcohol and synthetic film forming ingredients that suffocated the scalp. By combining film-forming proteins with the setting and styling power of guar gum, Mr. Greyl arrived at an efficient, gentle formula to structure and set styles without hardening or drying out hair. Initially christened Gel à la Kératine, this alcohol-free formula was renamed Gel à l’Hibiscus following reformulation in 2012 by Tom Brooks, who elected to replace the keratin with hibiscus extract known for its strengthening properties. Research and nature lie at the heart of all Leonor Greyl’s innovations.
